Itinerary
Day 1 Christchurch - Lake Tekapo Area - Mount Cook - Glacier Region Omarama 10:30 AM: The guide will meet you at Christchurch Airport and arrange pickups in batches based on flight arrivals. It is recommended to book a flight arriving before 9:30 AM (international flights should arrive before 8:30 AM). Guests arriving early are welcome to wait and relax inside the airport. Christchurch is known as the "Garden City" and a city that has risen from the ashes. After arrival, the journey begins, passing through the Lake Tekapo area. Here, you can visit the famous Church of the Good Shepherd (exterior view) and enjoy a leisurely walk along the milky-blue waters of Lake Tekapo. Next, proceed to Mount Cook, passing by Lake Pukaki at the foot of Mount Cook. This lake, formed by glacial meltwaters, is the largest in the area and is famously known as the "Milk Lake" for its unique greenish color. Lake Pukaki also provides one of the best vantage points to view the majestic Mount Cook, where the turquoise waters and rugged mountain landscapes create a breathtaking harmony. Mount Cook, the highest peak in New Zealand, also served as the backdrop for Gandalf's battle with the Balrog in The Lord of the Rings. Covered in snow year-round, it is often referred to as the "Roof of New Zealand." Its grandeur, serene beauty, and unique glacial experiences, along with the seasonal contrast of snow and lupines, offer a visual delight unmatched anywhere else. At Mount Cook National Park, you will have ample time (approximately 1 hour) to explore various hiking trails or, weather permitting, opt for an additional helicopter ride. The helicopter experience offers stunning aerial views of the glacier and Mount Cook’s grandeur. Tonight, you will stay in the Glacier Region town of Omarama and enjoy a western-style dinner at the hotel. Lunch: Self-arranged Dinner: Western-style hotel dinner Accommodation: 3-star hotel in Glacier Region, Omarama Day 2 Glacier Region - Wanaka - Haast - Glacier Town After breakfast, the journey continues to Wanaka, a hidden gem nestled among mountains and beside Lake Wanaka. Known for its tranquil beauty and idyllic atmosphere, Wanaka is a popular retreat for locals seeking relaxation. Its most iconic attraction is the "Wanaka Tree," a lone tree standing in the lake that has become one of New Zealand's most photographed trees. Take a moment to admire its beauty and enjoy a peaceful walk along the lakeside. If time permits and you're feeling adventurous, you have the unique opportunity to learn to fly a plane (optional activity) over the stunning landscapes of Wanaka under the guidance of a professional instructor. Alternatively, you may visit the F1 Museum (optional). Later, the journey continues to the quaint town of Haast, located in the heart of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area.
